Halloween Competition

SHORTLISTED STORIES:

1. SOMETHING UNEXPECTED by the Ladies without Head

Like everyday my mum and my dad came to give me the good nights to my room. This night I felt a presence. I heard some noises and strange feelings. I was frightened and I covered myself with my sheet. I believed that it protected me but it wasn’t like this…
During a moment the noises disappeared, so I opened my eyes. But in this moment I saw a shadow and I realized the window was opened. Suddenly a voice spoke to me and it said something, but I didn’t understand anything. I was frightened and I ran to my father’s room. The room’ light was on but they weren’t there. I went all over the house and I believed that they were disappeared. The lights turned on and turned off continuously and the doors opened and closed quickly. It was the same presence before. I felt that it wanted to take possessions of me for some reason; I investigated the past of this house and some of its tenants and I discovered that all of them died in strange causes. Since then anything is usual at home, my fathers have just come back but I assure that they haven’t the same behavior. I have a feeling that something has possessed them and I believe that I will be the next.

2. THE STRANGE MIRROR by The Vampire Girl
Years ago a very pretty woman had a little mirror where she was always looking her face. She became old and one ranning day she decided to go out to have a walk but unfortunatly she fell off next to a tree and she died.                                                                                                           Some years later a girl called Stephanie was running in the forest when she found a little mirror under a tree, she liked it a lot and she took it for her.                                                                          A ranning day Stephanie took up the mirror and she look her face but… in the mirror there was a other pretty woman face that wasn’t Stephanie’s face. She scared a lot and she decided to try look her face in the mirror one more time and again in the mirror wasn’t Stephanie’s face. The next day the weather was sunny and Stephanie looked her face in the mirror and she could see her face.                                                                                                                                                     Years and years later she discovered that all the ranning days she couldn’t see her face in the mirror and she never know why.
3. DON'T PLAY WITH THE DEAD by The Bloody Mad
It was the quiet sunset of a cold day of November. Two teenagers, Will and Chris, were doing a picnic at the cemetery. They were talking when they listened a strong noise, bum bum bum! It was more and more strong. Suddenly, an arm broke the blanket. They scream and tried run away but something sticky took them. They couldn't see anything. When they opened their eyes, they were in a small place and it was all in darkness. They couldn’t breathe...
Ten years later, in the Halloween night, a group of teenagers went at the same cemetery. They were joking and laughing and they made a bet. Two of the boys must dug up a coffin. They dug up it and then they opened. One of them took the women’s head and he watched it. She opened her eyes in blood and it was the last thing that the boys could see. Nobody have seen them anymore.
4. EMMA by Your Worst Nightmare
Emma walked to her chair. Next to her was Robert, her best friend. And she was loved of him since two years.
She was sitting like the other mornings, but this morning Emma was a little stranger than the others.
-Emma, what's happend? You're so nervous.
-Yes. It's true.
-And why are you nervous?
-Well, last night I had a terrible nightmare.
-You can tell me, if you want.
-Ok. I was in a party. I was dancing on the floor and speakin with my friends. It was the time to go to my house. I left of the club and
I went to my house walking. I went for a lot of dark streets. I felt that someone was chasing me. I walked more and more speed. But someone still chased me. One of this times, I turned and I saw a boy. This boy was back of me. I was so acared.
-Please, don't kill me. -I said- I'm so young to die.
-I don't going to kill you now. I going to kill you after.
-After?
And the boy went to other way. But the only thing that I could see was a special red  scar in his neck.
-A, it's terrible.
But Emma could't heart Robert. Because she was concentrated in the special red scar that Robert had in his neck.

This picture was taken right after I fell on some ice.

This is a picture of the village at the base of the mountain in Sierra Nevada.
The view from the top of the mountain was very beautiful.

We took the early morning bus on Saturday.

The weather was perfect for a day of skiing.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a federal holiday in the United States of America, which celebrates the birthday of MLKJr.  Dr. King was very concerned with civil rights, particularly, with racial discrimination within federal and state law.

The holiday was first observed on January 20, 1986, but it was not until the year 2000 that all 50 states observed the holiday as a national holiday.

King's most famous "I Have a Dream" speech, which took place in Washington D.C. continues to be an important part of American culture and history.  Below is an excerpt from that speech:

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.” I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaveowners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today."

Here is a video from this speech with the thousands of people in attendance:
