This Saturday, March 30, 2010, is the International Day of Peace. Today our school will celebrate this day, express our hope for peace and imagine a better world.
The world would be a better place if everyone would just "Give peace a chance," as John Lennon sang. Here are some images from the Imagine Monument in Central Park, N.Y.C. to remind us that we are not the only dreamers in the world.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a very important American. He fought in the Civil Rights Movement to end racial discrimination. He wanted equality for all Americans. In 1963 during the peaceful March on Washington, he gave a famous speech "I Have a Dream." Here are some excerpts from the speech:
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
...
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
In 1964, Martin Luther King, Jr. won the Nobel Peace Prize. Sadly, Dr. King was shot and killed by James Earl Ray on April 4, 1968.
Yesterday, January 18, 2010, the United States celebrated Dr. King's birthday with the national holiday Martin Luther King Day. We celebrate this holiday on the 3rd Monday of every January to remember Dr. King and his dreams for peace and equality in our country, a struggle which is not finished.

Happy New Year! 2010!
New Year's Eve in Times Square, N.Y.
Happy New Year! Since 1904, the New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square in New York City is the largest in the United States. At midnight, a ball drops on top of a large tower to ring in the New Year. All the television channels countdown the New Year and show images of the ball drop. In the U.S. we don't eat twelve grapes for good luck. Instead, we kiss our partner!
Another New Year's tradition is to make resolutions. A resolution is a promise you make to yourself to improve. My New Year's resolutions for 2010 are...
- to exercise more
- to dance more
- to pass the DELE Superior Spanish exam
What are your New Year's resolutions?
